Reflections of 9/11

Today is a somber day for our country.  I don't think there is a single person in this country that hasn't been affected by the tragedy of 9/11.  I am still horrified by the visions that I have from that day.

Please take a few moments today to remember the victims of that unfathomable crime and their family members.  Remember the children that continue to struggle with understanding exactly what happened on that day.  Many of them are no longer children and some of them never really go the opportunity to know their parents because many families worked in those buildings together.

Don't forget to remember our first responders and medical providers.  These special people truly went the extra mile on that day.  Many of them died while others lived because of their efforts.

Be thankful for the survivors and the family members who have learned how to survive without their loved ones.  These are the people who have shown us how to face adversity and come out on the other side.  Our country has watched them begin to heal as they all set beautiful examples for us.  Be thankful that our country has come this far.  We may be guarded but we can feel safe again.

Say a prayer for our country, our past, present and future leaders, and the service men and women who fight for our freedom and keep us safe.  Because of them we can sleep soundly at night knowing that they are working hard so that we never have to experience anything like that day again.  It really doesn't matter where you stand on the war or the withdrawal of troops, just be thankful that we the armed forces to fight for us.  Just as Jesus paid the price for our sin these young men and women have chosen a path in life that put them in danger for the safety of those who will never experience the fear, pain or terror that they have seen in Afghanistan and other countries on our behalf. I am not calling them the Holy Savior but their unconditional selfless sacrifice is beyond words.  I am touched by their service and honor.  My heart goes out to the families who lost their loved ones so that we can enjoy the life that we know as Americans.

Stand proud today as you remember September 11, 2001.  Even though we are experiencing tough economic difficulty we needn't loose sight that WE ARE BLESSED TO BE AMERICANS!!!!!!

Practice

Practice Tuesday 9/11/2012 @ 5:30 on GL1

Wesleyan Clinics

Wesleyan College is holding a fundamental clinic for youth baseball players on Monday nights from 5:30.  They usually teach until they can't see the baseball due to darkness.  If you are interested Thomas plans to take Hunter.  They are on the baseball field at the college and should run for the duration of the season as long as they have enough guys participating.  This clinic is one of the ways that Coach Charlie Long insures that his player give back to the community.  We have worked with Coach Long and his players for a few years now and I can be the first to tell you that they are all upstanding gentlemen.  I sincerely hope that you find the time to take advantage of the skills and talent these guys have to offer.

Friday 09.07.2012 - Winners X2

As I sit here tonight (at 2:30AM) I am a few days late on posting this info but .....

Friday night was a great night for the Orioles.  We are so proud of our Men!

Winner Winner Chicken Dinner!!!!!

Our boys worked very hard and brought home not one but two wins for the team.  It is so nice to start the season off with two wins right off the bat. (pun not intended)

Both games were a little tighter than I like to have them.  The last game was definitely a nail biter.  Our little men provided an entertaining night for sure.

If I can find my camera I will try to get some more pictures.  Here is one that I quickly snapped while Caleb Williams was on the mound in the second game against the D'Backs.  The quality isn't very good but a picture it is.   If any of you snap pics that you want to share or have added to the website please feel free to e-mail them to me.

Practice Canceled

Yesterday's practice was unexpectedly canceled.  Thomas was sleeping because he didn't get off work until 7:30 yesterday AM.  I had been working on baseball stuff all day and with Toby at home really didn't watch anything on TV that didn't involve a Disney character of come sort.  Hunter got off the school bus and walked in the door around 3:50pm or so.  It was hot, calm, very few clouds and the sun was shining.  We discussed his homework and I sent him directly to his room to get dressed for practice.  I unpacked Hunter's book bag and heard a noise outside.  It was probably around 4PM.  I got up to look outside and check it out.  The sky was dark but no rain and the wind was whipping.  The temp felt at least 15 degrees cooler.  I looked behind the house to see this huge rain cloud coming at us like a bullet.  I called Hunter and told him to wake his dad and rushed to take the dog out before the bottom fell out.  Needless to say I was drenched by the time I got the dog back in and she didn't even get time to finish her business.  Thomas (whom should have been up almost an hour prior) was sleepy eyed and shocked.  We watched as it kept getting dark and the rain just poured.  We don't live far from the field where practice was to be held so we were pretty confident that the field would be in bad shape even if the rain stopped.  Thomas made a few calls and I checked the radar.  He quickly decided to cancel practice.  He wasn't happy but knew that it would be best.

Here is a picture of a radar that was sent to me by one of our parents.

I sure hope that tonight's weather is much better.

E-mail - 9/6/12

Hello Parents and Grandparents,

I apologize for not getting an e-mail out before now. I spent part of last week in Durham with my dad who was supposed to have a kidney transplant. Once they opened him up they found that he was not a viable candidate and were not able to do the transplant. He came home last Friday and I am slowly getting back into the swing of things.

Thomas asked me to send your guys an e-mail this AM. There are a-lot things we need to cover.

Practice Change for today!!!!!!

Today's Practice location has changed..... We will be at Hornbeam Park instead of Englewood Park.

Thomas tried to call everyone last night and had to leave messages for 2 of you. The city has soccer games scheduled on the fields at Englewood so they called late yesterday and moved us to Hornbeam. We will practice at the same time we were originally scheduled to practice 5:30-7:00PM.

The physical address for the park is 150 Cunningham Dr for those of you that don't know where the park is and may have GPS.

From Nashville: you can come in 64 and take the hospital exit, turn Left and follow the new Thomas A Betts hwy until you get to Goldrock Road. Turn Rt onto Goldrock Rd. You will pass a church on your right and there will be an old Pizza Hut on your left Turn Left onto Cunningham and follow it all the way down to the park. It is in the back of the High Meadows subdivision.

From Roanoke Rapids: Come in 95 to Goldrock Road. then follow bold directions above (you will be coming in the same directions)

Feel free to call if you don't understand the directions or need them from another location.

Schedules:
I have a schedule and some of you may have a copy however, it is my understanding that the schedule may have been revised and I may not have the proper one. (the one I have should have been revised and doesn't look right) I will get one out to you as soon as I have confirmation that the one I have is correct.

Friday Night Game:
On the schedule that I have ... We have a double header this Friday. We will play the team we scrimmaged this past Tuesday for the first game on field 2 @ 5:30. After that we will face the D'Backs on field 3 @ 7:15.

****** Note: Please try to make sure your guys get something light to eat before the game. It will be hot and heavy meals can slow them down and make them sick. Please avoid milk, shakes and Ice cream products. The concession stand at the field usually has pizza and chick-fil-a sandwiches if you are interested. With 2 games I am sure they will get hungry before 9PM if they don't eat before the games.

Snacks: I think Mrs. Edwards spoke to me about snack a list. If you are interested in providing snacks for the boys we have 5 weeks to cover and 7 games. I am not sure that we will need 2 snacks on the nights we have 2 games but if we have enough volunteers we can certainly do that. I think my first game is covered but we have 2 games Friday night. If you are the parent that said you would do the snacks this Friday please let me know so that I will know for sure that it is covered. If you are interested in providing snacks or drinks please let me know. I will try to have a sign up sheet for the rest of the games on Friday night.

Facebook Requests:
For those of you who use Facebook, If I am not already friends with you, you should have gotten a friend request from me today. If you didn't it was because I couldn't find your e-mail address. Please send me a request at HBaileyECU@aol.com (I am not sure if my gmail address will come up)

Thomas has not sent any friend request out but you should be able to find him at UNCkidd@gmail.com if you are interested

Score book:
If you have experience keeping a score book and you are not already helping coach please let me know. If you don't know how to keep one but are interested I will be willing to teach you how. I am always looking for help in this area. With a potty training 3 year old it is difficult to keep a score book. I need someone that can either relieve me when I need to take him to the restroom or can help me get him to the potty when he needs to go. You will find I have to keep a pretty tight reign on Toby. He is pretty active.

Also, We will be out of town on Wed 9/19- Sun 9/23. I will need someone to keep the book for the game on 9/21.

Scoreboard:
Anytime we are home team we are responsible for keeping the scoreboard up. I can't do this, watch Toby and keep the score book. Anyone that wants to jump in there for us will be much appreciated. It isn't hard to do and usually siblings have a great time doing it.

If you need me before or during the game you can usually find me behind the backstop sitting beside a red wagon. (I sit there so that I can hear balls and strikes when the kids are pitching)

TXT Messages:
I will be setting up a group txt on mine and Thomas's phones today. You should get a test message from each of us sometime today. Please let me know if you don't get one or if you would prefer not to receive txt messages.

I am sorry this e-mail was so long. Hopefully all communications from here will be short and to the point.

Thank-you guys for all that you do and for being our loyal parents. Your patience and support are greatly appreciated. We will continue to take care of your children, treat them as our own and.... hopefully learn a little baseball along the way.   -Heather Bailey

We will have practice tomorrow morning Saturday 8/25/2012 @ 9AM on Field 1 at Grover Lucas Park (same field tryouts were held on)
